Project: University of Kentucky Medical Center Critical Care Center

Location: Lexington, Kentucky

The 250,000-square-foot Critical Care Addition includes a Trauma Center with four large trauma bays. The center is one of only two Level 1 trauma centers in Kentucky. The Center also includes an emergency room, clinical laboratory, surgery suite and intensive care unit. The roof-top hanger has two helipads to accommodate the Medical Center’s Sikorsky helicopter. Intensive care services are consolidated within one facility with 32 beds organized for cardio-thoracic, coronary, surgical and medical intensive care. The surgical suite, directly above the intensive care unit, offers twelve state-of-the-art operating rooms. Operating rooms designed for trauma, cardio-thoracic and orthopedics feature a “room within a room” high velocity air curtain. Each room is equipped for laser surgery and dialysis.

This project was a joint venture with Omni Architects and HOK.
